Hiring
If you would like to become part of the LPA teaching community, the first step is to contact us! Please send an email to [email protected] explaining your interest in LPA and your teaching experience. Kindly attach a cover letter and resume, and provide two references for review.
New teachers will be chosen through a strict and comprehensive hiring process. Successful applicants will have completed a Master’s Degree in Education, as well as extensive coursework in their field of instruction. LPA seeks candidates whose philosophies of education honor the value and potential in every student, and whose dedication shows through the results they reap in their classrooms. Preference will be given to those teachers trained through the Urban Teaching Corps, as well as those with successful experience in the classroom and strong recommendations.

Evaluations
Upon hiring, teachers will be placed on a one-year probation period. During this time, teachers will be closely monitored for successfully implemented classroom strategies, as well as innovations that can be extended to the school wide practices. In addition, each first-year teacher will fulfill an apprenticeship under a senior teacher, receiving mini-evaluations once per month, and more comprehensive evaluations at the close of each marking period. At the end of the first year, the teacher will undergo a final evaluation that will determine if they are invited back.
Because self-evaluation is a large part of continued improvement and ongoing success, and the opinions and shared successes of the teachers are what work in tandem to create the school environment, teachers will have regular opportunities to offer feedback to the administrative team. In addition, administrators and teachers will have regular meetings to share best practices, strategies that have worked in the classroom, and to brainstorm ideas for improvement, as well as troubleshoot possible resolutions to school wide concerns.
