Admissions
Leadership Preparatory Academy serves 50 students entering high school who are residents of New Haven, CT. Successful applicants are students with leadership potential, who are not performing well at their traditional schools. Students should apply to LPA with a serious devotion to improved success, and a need for additional school support to help them achieve these goals.
The application process is comprehensive, as we aim to admit the best-fitting applicants for our school community. The process is explained in greater detail below.

Written Application
All applicants will submit a written application by May 1st of the application year. This application includes questions about the student's academic and disciplinary records, as well as why they are interested in attending Leadership Preparatory Academy. The student will also be asked to provide two references.
Initial Interview
Upon initial review of the student's application, the LPA administrators will invite promising applicants for an Initial Interview. This is intended as a chance for the admissions team to become better acquainted with the applicant, and ascertain if the student is a good fit for LPA.
Secondary Interview
Finally, promising applicants will be invited for a second interview, which is often known as the Family Interview. This is an opportunity for parents and caregivers to ask questions about our program, and for LPA administrators to ensure a level of parental involvement in the student's education. Here, parents will sign a contract agreeing to devote their best commitment to their child's educational and leadership pursuits.
Next Steps
Upon admission, new LPA students will undergo academic screenings, so that the LPA Teaching Team may understand the student's academic level. These tests are not used to track students into different classrooms, but rather to understand the academic level of the incoming class as a whole, and plan the curriculum accordingly.
Additionally, new students will visit LPA on Shadow Day, in which they'll have the opportunity to experience a day in the life of an LPA student. Students will attend classes, eat lunch, and participate in Leadership Trainings with their Shadow Pair.
